Cornucopia

I am a Korean woman of modest means living in a foreign country-America. As a foreigner, I’m amazed by new things in a new land, while simultaneously experiencing common, everyday objects with renewed intimacy. I’m in a kind of cultural vertigo, where even the commonplace feels foreign.

I paint objects and environments that I see as metaphors of my new world. I select subjects, such as food or cooking utensil that I use daily. My subjects are intentionally rendered in heightened color and larger than life-size to suggest their richness of meaning to my simple life. My paintings are the fruits and vegetables that spill from the horn of plenty that is my imagination.
